IS FAST AND FURIOUS 8 TOO LONG?
In recent memory, one of the longest movies is the theatrical version of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. This has a longer-than-average running time of 151 minutes. But if you think that is long, can you imagine sitting in front of the screen for a good 160 minutes for Fast and Furious 8?
Fast and Furious 8
Granted that The Fate of the Furious will likely be more exciting than Batman V Superman, but isn't almost three hours too long? The 2 hours and 17 minutes we clocked in for Furious 7 is doable enough. Add another 23 minutes to that and we're bound to require at least one bathroom break.
There are a couple of issues here for Universal. Considering that it will take the movie three hours for a complete cycle, that means less show times in cinemas. That could significantly affect the movie earnings at the box office. Or is Universal that confident that The Fate of the Furious will do well?
To date, the franchise earned a grand total of $3.89 billion. The studio, for sure, wants to squeeze in every dime from Dom (Vin Diesel) and his "family." The fact that this would be the first Furious movie without the late Paul Walker will add to the branding.
The studio house should probably consider having an intermission for the movie, right?
FATE OF THE FURIOUS WILL PREMIERE SOON
The whole cast of the Furious franchise, except for Paul Walker, of course, will return on April 14. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell will reprise their roles. The newcomers include Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood, and Oscar-winner Helen Mirren.
It may be a little hard to believe, but the eighth movie in The Fast and the Furious franchise will be coming out in a little under two months. Somehow, Universal has turned a couple of movies about good looking people, fast cars and crime into one of the most successful and long-running franchises ever. The upcoming installment, The Fate of the Furious, is going to be a massive movie in more ways than one. Not only will it be big on action and spectacle, but the movie is reportedly going to be nearly three hours long.
IMDB recently updated The Fate of the Furious movie page and now has the movie listed with a reported run time of 160 minutes. Yes, if this new information is true, Fast and Furious 8 is going to be by far the longest movie in the franchise and one of the more lengthy movies to be released in recent memory. Just for reference, that would make it just a minute shorter than Martin Scorcese's religious drama Silence, which clocked in at 161 minutes. Also for the sake of comparison, the theatrical version of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice also had a longer than average run time of 151 minutes, but even that was shorter than what is being promised here. In case you're wondering what on Earth the movie could possibly warrant a nearly three-hour runtime, here is the official synopsis for The Fate of the Furious.
The Fate and Furious 8 will be directed by F. Gary Gray, whose recent accomplishment was Straight Outta Compton. If you're planning to catch the movie, prepare for a long and exhilarating ride.
